Hello. My name is Judson Collier. I am a Highschooler (2nd year) from Jacksonville Florida. I’m really interested in the web community, and when I graduate from college I would love to work in that field, specifically in web/graphic design, PR, or in event management. Some of my other interests are in photography, music, and filmmaking.
This is one of my recent favorites. As part of one of the BarCamp Jacksonville Planners, I took the initiative to begin production on our blog. I started out with a great cityscape photo, and began to work from there, and based the actual logo off the shine and colour that the buildings gave off.
As a big fan of photography, it was a thrill to create a website showcasing just that. The emphasis of the site is clearly shown, as the front page showcases some of the best work, with other content taking the sidelines. You don’t need words to show this is a photographer's website.
My design decisions for these we’re highly criticized as odd and stupid. Put simply, I was tired of boring business cards. So I mixed mine up a bit. At this day in age, all you need is your website to identify yourself right? So, I filled the rest of my card with other things, like my favorite music, and camera brand. In reality, they bring personality and great conversation to the table when meeting someone. No regrets.
I originally brought up the idea of starting a BarCamp in Jacksonville Florida, my hometown, in early 2006. With the help of some friends, we held it on June 17th 2006. Now, two years later, we’re working on pumping up the community for another BarCamp in May.
I was recently invited to speak about Wordpress and Blogging Tools at BlogOrlando 2007 and BlogSavannah 2008. It was an absolute thrill, and I hope to have the opportunity to do it again.
I am associated with a national group called Student Venture, and have been on staff for three years for their conferences, on the media team. It is a high-pressure job: Each day it requires recording and editing *quality* video during the conference for sessions, creating advertisements and appealing slides during the day, and managing the A/V equipment during the show. Each conferences holds 250-400 people.
